BUS drivers across Oxforshire have been dubbed superheroes inside and out after they raised hundreds for poorly children.

Wonder Woman, The Incredible Hulk and Captain America made a rare appearance behind the wheel of several Stagecoach buses earlier this month in aid of Helen and Douglas House Hospice.

The team raised around £700 – with more still coming in – through tips and sponsorships as they drove commuters round all day dressed as superheroes.

Clayton Moore, who drives the Stagecoach in Oxfordshire S5 bus between Bicester and Oxford, was sponsored to dress up as three different superheroes during his 13-hour shift.

Mr Moore said: "I started the day as a female Captain America, then spent the middle of the day on the road as Wonder Woman, before finishing my shift dressed as Little Red Riding Hood.

"I know Little Red Riding Hood isn’t classed as a superhero, but she was a childhood hero to me.

"The response from the public was overwhelming. I received lots of cheers throughout the day and everyone was so supportive.

"I feel privileged to have been part of such a special day to help raise awareness of the fantastic things Helen and Douglas House do every single day."

The superhero stunt was staged by the bus company to help raise funds for the Helen and Douglas House hospice in Magdalen Road, East Oxford, which supports young adults and children with life-limiting illnesses.

All the other drivers donated money to take part and many were given cash along the way.

Helen and Douglas spokeswoman Suzanne Attree said: "The Stagecoach Superheroes Day was a really fun, colourful event that was enjoyed by everyone involved, but there was also a much more serious side to it.

"Stagecoach has been a wonderful, enthusiastic supporter of Helen and Douglas House for a long time now.

"The Charity Champions at Stagecoach understand how much their support means.

"That's why Stagecoach's idea to dress up as superheroes was so perfect. It was great fun.

"Stagecoach chose to be superheroes to reflect the great work that goes on at Helen and Douglas House, but they are superheroes to us."
