OH DEER! This old stag doesn't look too impressed, but little does he know his face bagged a photographer a national accolade.

The red deer at Richmond Park, in London, proved the perfect picture for amateur photographer Duncan Eames from Bicester.

For the second year running, the wildlife hobbyist photographer entered a group of pictures into the British Wildlife Photography Awards.

This impressive snap wowed the judges to bag Mr Eames highly commended in the 'Behaviour' category.

He said: "The picture is one from Richmond Park which is really the only photography project I try to do each year.

"I barely get time to do this sort of this, so to be recognised is great.

"Considering I am an amateur photographer who doesn’t often get the chance to do as much photography as I would like – it feels like quite an achievement."

Mr Eames is an engineer by trade and tends to keep October weekends as free as possible to visit Richmond Park each year for the breeding season.

As a keen wildlife photographer the red deer fighting when attracting females always proves the perfect picture and the judges of this year's British Wildlife Photography Awards seem to agree.

Mr Eames was invited along to an exhibition of all the winning pictures at a swanky celebration in London last week, which also revealed the British Wildlife Photography book of winners.

He added: "It was great to see all the winning photos and meet some of the photographers that took them. It actually felt a little overwhelming as a first timer.

"It is an honour to be sharing page space in the British Wildlife Photography book as people I look up to in photography."
