A PAIR of Londoners travelled to Bicester Village before stealing nearly £5,000 worth of designer clothing in a shoplifting spree.

Daniel Mir, 28, of Cavendish Road, London, and Saif Uddin, 27, of Alexandra Park Road, London, both admitted theft at a number of boutiques.

Oxford Crown Court heard at their sentencing hearing on Thursday how the pair had made their way to the retail outlet on November 11.

Armed with a de-tagging device, the court heard, they proceeded to visit a number of boutiques before snatching the designer clothing from three different stores.

They took men’s clothing valued at £2,302 from Ralph Lauren, £1,517 from Dolce and Gabbana and £945 from Gucci.

CCTV cameras captured them taking the items and when security staff confronted them they quickly admitted the spree and were arrested.

Defending, Michael Gould, said that his client, Mir, had only stolen the clothing for himself, and not to sell on for profit.

He said: “There is remorse from the outset. Once stopped by security guards they handed everything over and even said ‘we have got more in the car’ and showed him that.

“These were not thefts for resale, it was professional clothes they were stealing for themselves, it was all high value men’s clothing.

“They were going to wear them themselves, it was opportunistic and not for commercial gain, it was all rather stupid.”

Sentencing, Recorder Nigel Daly said: “Both of you came to Oxfordshire from London deliberately to steal high value items from Bicester Village.

“In order to do so you acquired a de-tagging device showing a degree of planning, and these high value goods came to several thousands of pounds.”

The pair were each made subject to a community order for 12 months to include 180 hours of unpaid work. They must also each pay a fine of £500 plus £210 in costs and a victim surcharge.
