TRAVELLERS have left yet another park and ride strewn with rubbish as they abandoned the site after being camped up for almost a week.

Rubbish including bin bags, pots and gas bottles have been left behind by the group who left the Bicetser park and ride this afternoon.

It had been occupied until today by the group of about 50 caravans and vehicles which pitched up on Thursday, February 22.

It appears it was the same group of travellers who were threatened with legal action for taking over Pear Tree Park and Ride on the Oxford Northern Bypass previously.

The city council issued legal proceedings and lodged a possession claim, based on tresspass, before Oxford County Court and less than 24 hours later the group had moved to Bicester.

When the group moved from the Oxford park and ride on the same Thursday a sprawling trail of rubbish was also left behind.

Oxfordshire County Council spokesman Paul Smith said: "As travellers are being evicted from the park and rides stronger defences are being put in place to stop further encroachments.

"The rubbish at Bicester Park and Ride is being reported to Cherwell District Council for clean up to take place."

Mr Smith added the sort of defences that councils are looking into include barriers, earth mounds and stronger padlocks which can’t be easily cut.
