A MAN has been taken to hospital after his car came off the road and 'almost ended up in the garden of a house'.

The air ambulance landed at Bicester College yesterday afternoon after the incident in Buckingham Road, near Bicester North station.

Eye-witnesses described seeing a black car go straight through a metal fence and train signs.

A man in his 50s was taken to the John Radcliffe hospital for further assessment.

David Gallagher, spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 16.48 yesterday with the caller reporting a single vehicle accident on Buckingham Road near May Tree Close.

"The information provided suggested the driver of the vehicle had suffered a medical emergency at the wheel.

"We sent an ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and the air ambulance, which landed at Bicester College, to the incident.

"The patient, a male in his 50s, had recovered enough to get himself out of the vehicle in the end, so the air ambulance team were not required.

"He was then taken by the ambulance crew to the John Radcliffe Hospital for further assessment."
