SNOW: Travel round-up

OXFORDSHIRE bus operators are running near-normal services this morning following the overnight snow but say journeys may take a little longer than usual.

Oxford Bus Company, Stagecoach, Thames Travel and RH Buses say drivers will be taking extra care due to the conditions.

Three Stagecoach services will be modified, due to the snow on rural side roads. These are as follows:

  • 242 will run on the A4095 between Witney and North Leigh. Buses will not serve New Yatt. Passengers are advised to walk to North Leigh.
  •  S3 is unable to serve Cornish Road in Chipping Norton
  •  S4 will not serve Duns Tew, with passengers advised to walk to the A4260. Also, buses are able to serve Middle Barton but will go into the village from Hopcroft Holt and turn in Worton Road.

Train operators are running normal timetables.

There have been a number of accidents on the roads, with a lane on the A40 London Road in Headington closed due to an accident, and an accident on the M40 southbound between junction 10 at Ardley and junction 9 at Wendlebury.

For once I will give credit to Oxon Highways. At least we have some salt under the snow and with traffic movement roads are mainly clear. Same cannot be said for motorists who still insist on charging along the Witney bypass like maniacs without any or little lighting or concern for others. Also inconsiderate cyclists especially in Oxford. If there are cycle lanes or tracks why do you not use them?

Indeed I did see grit on the roads before the snow!

Once the roads are gritted, they need to be gritted again as it dissipates over a relatively short time.

The village wasn't gritted and neither were the non major roads but it isn't at all possible or feasible to do all roads.

Send the gritters out again to keep the roads clear and we may get through this snowy period :)
