HS2 challenge

BANBURY: Another campaign group has formally asked the Government to scrap plans for a high-speed rail plan and threatened legal action.

The HS2 Action Alliance says it will challenge Secretary of State for Transport Justine Greening through a judicial review if she still backs the scheme.

So many people out there with deep pockets prepared threaten the government with "legal action".

Why don't they spend it on British manufactured goods and help the economy instead?

I guess because they want to stop the government from spending 34 billion of our pounds on Chinese trains, Chinese engineers and Chinese project managers etc.

I suspect the trains are not the major item of expenditure, but civil engineering and steel to build the track. All of which will be a big boost to the UK economy.

Against that at £30+ billion the price is high. The Airbus 380 super jumbo was in the air at only £8 billlion and with private finance. Also there has been no debate in Parliament with a for and against, and no vote except in the cabinet. Politics failing the public again, personally I think the cost is so high there should be a referendum to decide?

Except the steel in the construction is almost certain to come from China, not the UK, the skilled labour is likely to come from Poland and the unskilled labour from Romania.
This will not boost the UK economy in any way - it will just cost us an absolute king's ransome, and 15 years of traffic chaos and disruption.
The whole scheme is a political white elephant designed to make a few government ministers look as if they are actually doing something (when they really aren't).
