Runners are preparing for the Earth Trust’s inaugural 10k run on September 21 with training sessions on the Wittenham Clumps.

The run will raise money for a series of nature projects, such as planting new hedgerows and creating sustainable habitats for great crested newts.

The Earth Trust is an environmental charity that aims to protect the environment and promote sustainable lifestyles.

Development officer Mark Tindall said: “We exist to serve the community and we want to get people involved.

“Most people haven’t had any contact with us before and it is a different set to the people who would normally use the Clumps. We felt runners were part of the community who were not using it as much as they could so it’s a way to open it up to them.”

Twenty-two people, many who hadn’t run long distances before, are training three nights a week with the Nixercise group.
