AN Oxfordshire beauty queen is setting her sights on becoming this year’s Miss Great Britain.

Amelia Watt, 24, will be representing the county as she competes in the national finals of the beauty competition next month.

She will be up against around 50 girls from across the country hoping to be crowned the country’s new beauty queen.

Wiltshire-born Miss Watt, who now lives in Botley, said: “I’m really excited. I think the standards are going to be high but I take more from it than just trying to win.

“It’s the preparation, the experience, the time at the finals. It would just be the most wonderful opportunity. It’s amazing. I’m so honoured to be able to represent Oxfordshire.”

The Oxford Brookes University business management masters student missed out on being crowned Miss England in June.

She was placed in the top 15 contestants but won the Miss Brainy Beauty title after a series of general knowledge quizzes.

It was the second time that Miss Watt had represented the county at the Miss England finals, having previously won the Miss Oxfordshire contest back in 2012.

She said: “I would love to be a role model for others and inspire others to reach their potential. I want to change the stereotypes that pageants have around them.”

The Miss Great Britain winner is set to be announced at a glitzy two-day ceremony from Friday, November 14, at Leicester’s Athena venue.
