DIDCOT’S own Miss Claus took part in her penultimate present drop-off yesterday when she visited the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Abingdon & Witney College student Courtney Hughes, 16, dropped off gifts donated from across Oxfordshire for charity Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents (SSNAP).

One of her presents was given to four-month-old Oliver Walters, a patient at the low dependency unit for sick babies.

Courtney said: “My great-grandmother Elsie Richardson inspired me to do it because she passed away last Christmas and she did not like hospital. I love to see the people smile and how grateful they are for just the little things in life.

“Today I was giving the babies their first Christmas present so it is really nice to be there for that, especially with their mums.”

Courtney will be making her last delivery tomorrow to the Life House charity for young mothers in Didcot.

She said: “I have delivered more than 1,500 presents and I do not know how many I delivered today.”
