A demolition truck at Didcot power station was officially given a new nickname yesterday .

The latest addition to a fleet of demolition trucks was called Stanley, after contractors Coleman & Company, who are demolishing the old coal-fired Didcot A Power Station, ran a competition to rename one of its vehicles.

Stanley, a 130 tonne Liebherr 947 will be used to cut down larger pieces of steel that need to be removed from the station, which closed in March, 2013, under moves to cut the UK’s carbon footprint.

Three of the six iconic cooling towers at the power station were blown up last summer.

Gas-fired Didcot B is still operational.
