BAKING queen Christine Wallace told of the fun she had on The Great British Bake Off with “mischievous” Mary Berry, as this year’s series hit the nation’s television screens.

Mrs Wallace, from Didcot, appeared on the show two years ago in series four, and was one of the last five contestants.

She settled down to watch the first episode of the new BBC series last night with her husband Rob, a glass of bubbly and some of her homemade salted caramel and strawberry vanilla macaroons.

Mrs Wallace said: “I love to see all the characters. You can pretty much tell in the first couple of episodes who will go the distance.

“Mary is every inch the lady, she is very gracious and warm and a little bit mischievous. When the prsenters Sue and Mel pinch food she often joins in.”

Catch The Great British Bake Off on Wednesday nights between 8pm and 9pm on BBC One.
