A MAN who was “partially unconscious” was rescued from a Didcot lake this morning.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called at about 12.40am to Ladygrove Lakes, near Venners Water.

It said the 43-year-old was found “up to his chest in water clinging to a wooden structure” after firefighters searched the lakes.

The service said the man was “partially unconscious” and had been drinking alcohol but firefighters were able to pull the man to safety.

Watch Manager Jon Walker said: “The man had been in the water some time, he was mildly hypothermic when we arrived and unsure how he got in the water in the first place.

“He was lucky to have been found and not come to any further harm.

“We cannot stress the dangers of open water enough, even at this time of year, especially when combined with alcohol and horseplay.”

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said Thames Valley Police is investigating the incident and is asking for anyone with information to contact officers on 101.
