CHILDREN of all ages enjoyed learning about the wonders of science at a fun workshop in Didcot, including how to turn a CD into a balloon-powered hovercraft.

The Cornerstone Arts Centre and Science Oxford hosted a creative and hands-on science workshop for youngsters this week.

Eddie Comerford, 10, said the whole day was ‘fantastic’. His mum Nichola said: “He was very excited to show me all the stuff he had made. He had made a jitterbug spider, and a CD balloon hovercraft.

“He attached a Fruit Shoot lid to a CD and then blew up a balloon and attached it to the lid and placed it on the floor.

“When released it moves across the floor like a hovercraft. The children had it explained to them as well, how it works and why it hovers across the floor.”

Eddie, who lives in Headington, stayed at Wednesday’s workshop all day from 10.30am to 4pm with a group of other children. His mum added: “We couldn’t find a science workshop in Oxford this year which is why we chose this one in Didcot.”
