A 20-YEAR-OLD man who smashed a mirror after arguing with his mother about cleaning his room avoided jail.

Stephen Ducker, of Samor Way, Didcot, appeared at Oxford Crown Court after admitting one count of criminal damage.

At the hearing on Friday he admitted damaging a mirror and a banister after arguing with mother Bridget Ducker on June 26.

Prosecutor Timothy Boswell said Ducker had an argument with his mother about cleaning his room and people going into his room without his permission.

He said Ducker smashed a mirror as he was walking down the stairs before “a number of things” were then said between the pair.

The prosecutor said Ducker, who has no previous convictions, had two cautions for criminal damage, which included one for damaging plasterboard in his family home.

Mr Boswell added Ms Ducker said her son was not a “bad person” but needed anger help with his anger.

Claire Fraser, defending, said Ducker had since moved out of the family home and is looking for work in Portsmouth.

Judge Ian Pringle said: “You lost your temper, badly, at home. You lashed out.

“What troubles me is that you have two previous cautions for criminal damage and it’s quite clear that you have to learn to control your temper, otherwise it will lead you into trouble. “You must learn to control your temper and if you need help, you can get that.”

Ducker was handed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £900 criminal courts charge and a £15 victim surcharge.
