CASH raised from selling bags which represent the “changing landscape of Didcot” will be put back into the town.

Members of the Chamber of Commerce have created a reusable bag and will put the money raised from sales back into the town’s economy.

Committee member Samantha Hall said: “The idea came as we were having a chamber meeting and we decided as a chamber we wanted to put something positive out there for Didcot.

“With all the shops charging for plastic bags, it seemed like an obvious thing to create and we wanted to use a local artist, which is why we teamed up with Linda Benton.

“We sent her all the briefs and we wanted to have two designs on the bag.

“One side represents old Didcot and all the key buildings that were around and then the other side is the new Didcot which includes the science park.

“The bag is supposed to represent the changing landscape of Didcot.”

She added: “We’re hoping to go into local shops around Didcot but we are just sorting out the logistics of how many we will stock and at what shops.

“We have yet to decide on a specific project for the money raised by bag sales to go to, however we are having a meeting soon to discuss what we would like to concentrate on in 2016.”

Five hundred bags have been created and the committee is considering releasing more.

The bags, which cost £10, were launched last weekend at the Christmas Craft Fair at Didcot Civic Hall. They will next be on sale at the town’s Christmas Street Fair on November 26.
