AN application for a new warehouse at Didcot Power Station A has been submitted to the district council.

Developer Clowes Development Ltd is hoping to get permission for a warehouse with offices and car parking on part of its 47 hectare site.

James Hicks an associate at Pegasus Group - the developers' agent- said the construction of the warehouse would not interfere with the current police investigations following the collapse of half of the boiler house in February.

He said: "This is a completely separate site to where the investigation is currently taking place.

"Although Didcot A power station shares the same address, the site we are looking to build on is where the chimneys are.

"RWE still retains the part of the site which was involved in that unfortunate tragedy."

An application for outline planning consent was submitted for the whole of the Didcot A in 2015, which is due to be determined shortly.

Mr Hicks said a separate planning application for this warehouse had been submitted because an interested occupier is keen to move onto the site as quickly as possible.

He said: "We have already got someone who is extremely interested in the site.

"Previously we have submitted an outline application for the whole site which includes: 400 homes, mixed use of six units which would be offices, commercial retail which includes small retail units and a 150 bed hotel.

"But because there are so many parts to that application it has taken a long time for it to go through the planning stages.

"Instead we thought if we submitted an application just for the warehouse then it would be approved quicker."

The warehouse application covers a site of 5.55 hectares and parking is provided on the plot to the north of the building for cars and the west of the building for goods vehicles.

The proposed development is for a main B8 warehouse with ancillary three storey offices.

There are a total of 300 car parking spaces including six disabled spaces which will account for shift changeovers.

Mr Hicks added: "The site is identified in Vale of White Horse's submission Local Plan 2031 as representing an opportunity for the generation of around 47 hectares of brown field land and the site will be instrumental in the future shaping of the town.

"It is envisaged over the next ten years we will be able to have this project built, but you never know with the market it might take more time than expected or it might be quicker."

The consultation on the application closes on Wednesday, June 15.
