Staff were threatened by a man with what appeared to be a gun during a terrifying robbery in a supermarket.

The man entered the Co-operative store off Mersey Way in the Ladygrove Estate in Didcot at about 8.30pm yesterday.

Police said he threatened the staff with what appeared to be a firearm before demanding money and tobacco.

He placed the items in a shopping bag and left the store.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the robbery.

Police described the robber as white; wearing a beanie-style hat, sunglasses and navy coloured clothing and was carrying a metal pole at the time of the incident.

Investigating officer Det Con Arran Cliff, from Abingdon Force CID, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who has any information about the robbery or anyone who witnessed anyone acting suspiciously in the area at around the time. If you have any information which could assist enquiries, please come forward and speak to police.

“Fortunately no one was hurt during the incident however it was a frightening experience for those who were in the store.

“People in the community may notice an increased presence of officers in the area. If anyone has any concerns, or any information, please approach and speak to an officer.”
