A FORMER director on Oxfordshire County Council has joined an group which promotes Didcot to businesses and tourist.

Sue Scane will be joining the team at Didcot First having recently retired from the county authority.

Previously she has held such roles as chief finance officer and director of environment and economy at the council.

In her career Mrs Scane helped to get the Oxfordshire City Deal, which aims to maximise the science facilities throughout the county including Harwell, Milton Park and Culham.

She said: "I am excited to be joining Didcot First so I can continue to aid the development of our area.

"Didcot has a great many opportunities and I know that Didcot First wants to help ensure they are developed properly for the benefit of the town."

The Didcot First board is made up by local organisations and its supporters to bring together specialist skills and knowledge from business, housing, education and community sectors.

The group has been working in Didcot since 2006 and has benefitted thousands of people in the town with a number of events and activities since its beginning.

Didcot First chairman David Pryor added: "Our directors and I are very excited to have Sue come onto the Didcot First Board.

"She brings an extensive knowledge of local government along with all the latest ideas and developments being discussed for the county and Didcot area."
