DEVELOPERS are to explain to residents their plans for a new technology park close to Didcot.

Reef Estates is proposing to create the park on land at Hill Farm, north of the town, with access off the A4130.

There will be an exhibition at Didcot Civic Hall on Wednesday, from 2pm to 8pm.

The technology park would be in the Didcot Growth Accelerator Enterprise Zone and in the Vale of White Horse District Council area so it would consider the planning application.

Didcot town council leader Bill Service said: "This new technology park will be in the Vale so perhaps it shouldn't be called Didcot Technology Park.

"It is bound to create jobs, which is a good thing, and people in Didcot will benefit.

"We need to make sure all the infrastructure is put in place for all this growth, including thousands of new homes being built in and around Didcot.

"This is bound to put more pressure on the A4130, which is already very busy."

The Vale council is considering creating a local development order for the site, which could help to speed up the planning process.

Reef Estates said it was now drawing up plans for a formal planning application for a new 100-acre park featuring 955,000 sq ft of commercial space.

This is expected to include between six and 18 dot-com and logistics warehouses for distribution, totalling more than 850,000 sq ft.

A statement added: "The site will also include light industrial accommodation, trade park units, retail and showroom units, builders merchants, and car showrooms, as well as around 35 acres of sport playing fields."
