PHOTOGRAPHERS are invited to enter a competition to capture the beauty of the North Wessex Downs.

Judges are looking for photos of people enjoying the area, "active lifestyles" and sports on the Downs, people working in the landscape, and "local producers and traditional skills".

The contest opened on September 1 and will run for one year with four seasonal rounds.

There will be a prize for the best photo submitted in each of the four seasons with the three best seasonal shots from each round going forward for a grand prize in autumn 2017.

The first round, Autumn in the North Wessex Downs, is open until December 1.

Details of how to enter, prizes and terms and conditions are available at northwessexdowns.org.uk.

The prize for this round is two "discovery" tickets for the Bombay Sapphire Distillery at Whitchurch near Wallingford.

The competition is being run by the board which looks after the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The AONB covers 668 square miles of Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire and is the third-largest AONB in England.

It was created in 1972 to protect and enhance one of the largest tracts of chalk downland in southern England along with other beautiful landscapes.

The AONB office at Denford Manor near Hungerford was established in October 2002.
