Cyclists handle windy circuit for charity challenge
5:00pm Monday 18th June 2012 in Didcot
Liam Concannon, 11, Stanley Tibbetts, nine, and 10-year-old Billy Tibbets took part in the cycling event
CYCLISTS were out in force to boost their South Oxfordshire village.
Upton’s third annual Uptonogood cycle ride aims to raise £10,000, which will go towards a cycle track and a donation to Blewbury School.
Plans have been drawn up to build a track next to the playgroup, which will incorporate dirt bumps created when the village hall was built.
Organised by Mike Tibbets and Bob Lott, riders could cycle five-, 12-, 25- and 45-mile circuits, ranging from toddler to endurance levels. Among those taking part were Liam Concannon, 11, Stanley Tibbetts, nine, and 10-year-old Billy Tibbets.
Mr Tibbets said: “It was quite windy, but we were lucky with the weather.
“The route was a challenge. Quite a few people who signed up to do the 45-mile swapped to the 25-mile route.
“There was amazing feedback.”
Rosalie Radburn, of Samor Way, Didcot, who completed the 12-mile family ride with husband Jonathan, and children Freya, 10, and Henry, eight, said: “It was very windy, but it was a lovely day out, really enjoyable.”
