Children at a nursery in St Albans rolled up their sleeves and got muddy to mark the start of National Gardening Week.

Willows Farm Day Nursery invited youngsters to plant seeds in its gardening plot on Friday.

Manager Louise Hobbs said: "Celebrating National Gardening Week allows us to get outside in the fresh air and make a real connection for the children with the Farm Village next door.

"Our Nursery Garden Plot provides a fantastic way for the children to learn how some of their food is produced and we are looking forward to planting lots more and, of course, eating the vegetables."
