A car fire tackled by firefighters in Barns Road, Cowley started after an engine fault.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Marcus Mabberley said firefighters from Slade Park, in Headington, were called to the blaze at about 7.30pm on Monday.
The Ford Focus blaze was not being treated as arson, he added.
The incident caused minor traffic problems, with Stagecoach temporarily diverting its 1 and 12 services to Blackbird Leys.
