TWO men tried to rob a 22-year-old woman for her handbag in St Giles, police say.

She was walking outside the Lamb and Flag pub on Monday at 10pm when two men allegedly tried to take her handbag.

Two passers-by helped by shouting at the robbers, meaning she could run away.

Det Con Charlotte Dunford said: “Two males saw what was happening and came to help the female. These two men are described as looking like students.

“I would appeal for them to come forward as I believe they saw this incident take place.”

She said one of the thieves is described as 5ft 6ins with shoulder-length “scraggly” hair. He was wearing a black coat with a grey hoodie underneath and a hat.

The second was male and wearing a dark hoodie.

Police did not release the information to the public until today.
