A VIGIL to remember those killed in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians in Gaza this year was held in Carfax, Oxford.

Thirteen people sang carols for an hour before staging a silent vigil at Carfax on Thursday for those who lost their lives.

It included a written message from Hassan Al-Hallaq, who studied at Oxford Brookes University and lost his pregnant wife and two children in July when they were killed in an explosion this summer.

The event also included a collection on behalf of Medical Aid for Palestinians.

Organiser Shayma Waheidi said: “Many people were reading the signs that we had, so it went well.”

More than 2,100 Palestinians and about 73 Israelis died during 50 days of fighting this summer.
