WORK will begin today to overhaul a canal towpath in North Oxford.
The Canal and River Trust will close the path between Walton Well Road and Aristotle Lane so it can resurface the stretch.
The £158,000 scheme has come after years of campaigning by residents and councillors, who have complained about uneven surfaces and said it is a danger to cyclists. It is being funded by the Canal and River Trust, Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council.
Work had originally been due to start on January 19 but was delayed due to a lack of resources, the trust said.
The path is now expected to be closed for up to five weeks.
