SOME families decorate their living room walls with decorative paint or wallpaper.

But comic book fanatic Andrew Timbs has taken home decorating to a whole new level.

The 35-year-old graphic designer has spent four months painting a mural on the lounge wall at his Wootton home. It’s of his favourite comic book characters Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America, Loki and Thor.

The 35-year-old illustration graduate said: “I’ve always been a massive comic book fan.

“My parents used to always buy me comics and since movies like Iron Man have come out, I’ve started collecting film memorabilia.”

Over the years, Mr Timbs has spent about £8,000 on purchasing film collectibles such as a half-scale model of Iron Man.

The married father-of-one said: “I had all these collectables and wanted to put them on display.

“We moved into a new house recently, and my wife said it would be okay for me to decorate one of the rooms so I decided to decorate them with all the Marvel comic heroes.

“I love painting and illustrating but rarely get the chance to do it in my current job, so I thought that I’d take on this project.

“It was a bit crazy, but I’m really pleased with the finished result.

“My one-year-old son George seems to like the Hulk and Iron Man, he doesn’t seem scared by it.”

Mr Timbs’ wife 29-year-old Lotte said: “It’s completely bonkers. He just really enjoys the films so I let him do it. I guess it’s better than a blank wall. I like the films as well, but nowhere near as much as him.”

Until embarking on the project, the Kidlington hairdresser had no idea her husband was such a talented artist. She said: “He decorated our son’s bedroom and did some teddy bears on the wall which was good, but this is a whole other level.”

Now that Mr Timbs has completed his mural, he’s planning on embarking on his next project.

He said: “I’ve loved The Lord of the Rings for a long time and I started buying collectibles in about 2002.

“I’ve probably got about £10,000 worth of film collectibles from the series, but it’s all in storage.

“I’m hoping that I can possibly redecorate what will be my son’s room with Lord of the Rings characters.

But Mrs Timbs said: “Absolutely not, he’s not doing that.

“George’s room is going to be decorated with Percy Pig and that’s the end of it.”
