A MAN found dead at an Oxford hostel died of drug and alcohol misuse, an inquest heard yesterday.
Oxford’s Coroner’s Court heard unemployed Zydrunas Viktorinas, known as Bruno, was found dead in his room at Lucy Faithfull House on September 25 last year. DC Richard Allmond said in his statement Thames Valley Police officers found Lithuanian-born Mr Viktorinas at the Speedwell Street hostel cross-legged on the floor with a crack pipe in his hand.
He added officers found a bump on the left side of the 37-year-old’s head, which hostel staff said happened after Mr Viktorinas was assaulted earlier in September.
Forensic toxicologist Collin Seneviratne said a toxicology report showed morphine, cocaine and alcohol were found in Mr Viktorinas’ blood.
Forensic pathologist Nicholas Hunt said in his statement hostel staff had mentioned Mr Viktorinas complained of headaches the week before his death.
But Dr Hunt said a post mortem examination showed Mr Viktorinas’ bump “played no part in causing or contributing to his death”.
Oxfordshire Coroner Darren Salter recorded a verdict of drug and alcohol related death.
