RESIDENTS have been gathering to sing in harmony as part of a group to bring the community together.

Barton Sings is calling out for residents to join and learn harmony songs, as well as make friends along the way.

Janet Stansfeld, who is supported by Oxford-based charity Sound Resource, has been hosting the sessions in Meadowbrook, Headington, which aim to improve the health and wellbeing of people from a range of ages.

She said: “The sessions aim to provide people with access to singing as well as trying to connect the community.

“We get a wide range of ages and people get to meet others they may not have met before.

“We have a good laugh and really enjoy ourselves. On a personal level it is just a really heartwarming way of making a difference with people.

“It makes a difference to me too as I always get a lift when I’m doing the sessions.”

The sessions take place during the day and are free to residents who are on benefits and are looking to expand its membership.

The group have performed around the community at the care home and in the primary school.

Ms Stansfeld added: “We sing songs that are suitable for large groups to sing. These include west African songs, Mexican songs and sometimes a bit of gospel.

“We are always looking for new members to join in the fun.”
