THOUSANDS of children have been delving into the fictional world of literature at this year’s Bookfeast Festival.

Earlier this month Oxford Museums hosted more than 2,000 school children as they met with 18 authors including writer of the award-winning His Dark Materials trilogy Philip Pullman.

Bookfeast is an Oxfordshire charity that organises the annual event to get children enjoying reading.

Bookfeast director Angie Prysor-Jones said: “It was wonderful to see so many children both enjoying the museums and being excited to listen to the authors.”

Teachers also commented about how great it was to hear snippets of Mr Pullman’s book read by the man himself.

The events, this year themed around Place and Space, were for children across the county from Year 1 to Year 6 to meet with authors and illustrators and listen to their work.

About 27 events were hosted over the week between Oxford University Museum of Natural History and Pitt Rivers Museum in Parks Road and the Ashmolean Museum in Beaumont Street.

Alongside Philip Pullman, authors and illustrators included Caroline Lawrence, Alex Milway, Tom Moorhouse and Matt Brown.

Bookfeast is holding a creative writing competition for primary schoolchildren across Oxfordshire with eight prizes of Blackwell’s vouchers.
