Robber John Rooney who escaped from an open prison in Aylesbury and got a bus to Oxford is no longer thought to be in the area.
Thames Valley Police are helping Greater Manchester Police and the Prison Service in trying to find him.
Rooney, 47, who was half-way through a 24-year jail term for robbery and kidnap, has links with Manchester. He walked out of Springhill Prison on Monday and caught a bus from Bicester to Oxford.
