TRAFFIC was held for 20 minutes on the M40 at Thame due to a serious crash on the Northbound exit slip road.

Police were called at the scene at 3:20pm after vehicle left the carriageway off junction 7.

The road was closed due to an air ambulance landing off the motorway.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher said crews were called at 3:27pm.

A rapid response vehicle, an ambulance, an air ambulance, an ambulance officer and an Enhanced Care Response Unit (ECRU) car were sent to the scene.

The driver, a male, suffered a medical incident that caused his vehicle to crash, Mr Gallagher said.

He added: "We do not know about any injuries he may have sustained as a result of the crash but he was taken to hospital due to the medical reasons that caused it."

According to traffic reports, all lanes have been re-opened and traffic on the M40 Northbound is now easing. Police said the exit slip road was no longer fully closed.
