A MIXTURE of magic, monsters and muggles made up the Harry Potter themed night at the Cowley Library on Thursday.

Fancy dress-clad youngsters aged between seven and 11 were treated to a night of spells for Harry Potter Book Night, which is celebrated nationally.

The library got children to take part in a sorting ceremony to split them into houses before getting stuck in to making magic potions.

Wands, cloaks and hats made up the many outfits of children visiting the library in Temple Road.

Noah Scarlett, seven, got into character with his cloak and wand.

His mother Anda Meimane said: "When we arrived it was awesome.

"Staff were really welcoming and the decorations were amazing – there were lots of games and interaction with the children.

"Noah was so excited and enjoyed the treasure hunt to find all the ingredients for making potions.

"They were also put in houses and had to make up their own potion recipes, so there were lots of crazy ingredients like dogs' legs and dragon slime.

"Noah was pleased with his certificate and came home with an activity set and a wand."
