OXFORD's outgoing Lord Mayor said it was an honour to recognise volunteers in communities across the city for the work they do.

Rae Humberstone said awarding the certificates of honour to 10 volunteers was a "fantastic" way to end his reign as Lord Mayor.

People who had volunteered their services for many years in schools, community groups and charities were recognised at a ceremony in Town Hall last week.

Mr Humberstone said his year's tenure was great and that he would love to do it again.

He added: "It was a great way to finish the year buy saying thank you to people who have been volunteering in their areas.

"It's fantastic to award and appreciate the people who have gave up their own time to help others.

"The year as Lord Mayor has been great and I would do it all over again."
