VIRBANT and clean-cut artwork created by one of Oxford's hidden treasures is on display this summer.

Art Jericho is showing paintings, prints and collages by artist Jeff Clarke until August 26 to mark the printmaker celebrating 50 years in the studio this year.

Run by fine artist Jenny Blyth, Art Jericho exhibits work by established and emerging artists every year. The exhibitions change every four or five weeks and artwork is always for sale.

This summer Ms Blyth is encouraging both visitors and residents to come and view Mr Clarke's work, which mainly focuses on light.

She said: "Jeff Clarke's collages, prints and oil paintings, explore recurrent themes. He is drawn to his subjects as planets to the sun - brushes in a jug with fruit and flower pot, washing on a line behind his studio, perhaps a particular scene glimpsed through the garden door.

"His preoccupation is light and shade and how to articulate the impact of light, in that moment, on form."

The exhibition is open daily from Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm at Art Jericho, 6 King Street, Oxford.

Spending a good deal of his time painting in the Mediterranean, Mr Clarke said of his work: "Working in places of classical and romantic history is a powerful stimulant, but my real job for a long time has been to try and capture some sense of the precious irradiation of the everyday, just south of Folly Bridge."
