A 14-year-old girl who claims she was raped by a hospital technician has made up the claims to keep up with her friends, a court heard.

In 2008, Hoque, who is currently suspended from the John Radcliffe Hospital, allegedly took her virginity in a hotel. He then continued to have sex with her for more than two years, it is said.

But his barrister Kimberley Aiken has accused the girl of making up the claim in the wake of other high-profile child sexual abuse cases in Oxfordshire.

In her closing speech at the Old Baileyon Thursday, she said: “This is a false allegation from a young girl.

“All this seems to me to be about a young girl whose life seems to have been about communicating activity to a group of more experienced girls than actually having any activity.”

In his evidence, Hoque denied having anything to do with the girl.

The jury has heard the girl was flattered by the attentions of Hoque and they had regular sex – with and without protection.

She tried to hide their relationship by saving his number under the nickname ‘Fish’ on her phone, the court has heard.

The complainant said that although she at first consented to sex, Hoque became more forceful as the relationship continued and raped her on three occasions.

The complainant had an abortion in 2011, and she insists it was Hoque’s child and he had asked her to terminate the pregnancy.

Hoque, of Leon Close, East Oxford, denies three counts of rape and 12 counts of sexual activity with a child.

The trial continues.
