HOLLYWOOD hype came to Oxford as crowds turned out to watch A-listers act out scenes for the new Transformers film.

Camera crews launched into their final day of shooting in the city at the weekend, following their crowd-magnetising debut in Radcliffe Square and High Street on Friday.

Filming took place at locations including the Museum of Natural History, which is closed to visitors today, Catte Street and Broad Street.

Trucks full of supercars including Lamborghinis and McLarens were unloaded in Broad Street, in contrast to a mangled car wreckage thought to be involved in a crash scene.

Car transporters also drove onto the set full of emergency service vehicles and military-style 4x4s.

A worker on-site said he did not expect there to be a car chase as crews had already filmed one in London, but said spectators might catch a glimpse of stars Sir Anthony Hopkins and Mark Wahlberg.

On Sunday drivers faced full road closures on Broad Street, Catte Street, Holywell Street, New College Lane and the southern part of Parks Road while filming takes place, which were lifted at 11pm.

Crowds defied the rain and gathered in Broad Street to peak through gates into Catte Street and catch a glimpse of the cast.

An employee at The Tuck Shop in Holywell Street said: "It's been drumming up so much extra business. A lot of people are coming down to see what's going on."

Others on Twitter have been less impressed by the hubbub.

Though no giant robots have yet been spotted looming over the Dreaming Spires, fans on Friday managed to track down some of the famous names who will grace the big screen when the film is released next year.

Oxfordshire residents Emily Reed shared a beaming snap with Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Vivian Willkinson also managed to get a selfie with Sir Anthony outside Lincoln College library, who she described as "absolutely awesome."

Oxford Mail:

She said: "He was so lovely and happily chatting and letting fans have their photos taken with him.

"He was absolutely beaming at everyone in the crowd and bringing so much joy to his fans by paying genuine attention to what they were telling him."

Transformers: The Last Knight will be the fifth film in the sci-fi action series, in which Oxfordshire's Blenheim Palace will also feature.
