Bus users across Oxford will have to pay more for their fares from next week.

SmartZone tickets for adult weekly fares will increase by 49p and a 4-week ticket will cost 99p more.

A 13-week ticket will increase by £2.99 and an annual ticket by £20.99.

The changes will come into affect from Sunday January 29.

In a statement Oxford SmartZone blamed worsening traffic problems in the city for the price hike.

The statement read: "Over the past 12 months road works and worsening traffic congestion continued to affect our services and as a result the costs of operation have also gone up.

“Investment across the network has continued with new buses, technology and routes being introduced in the past year.”

The SmartZone bus companies include Oxford Bus Company, Stagecoach and Thames Travel.
