A HEALTH trust is hoping to lead the way in how technology is used in delivering healthcare.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) is on the hunt for more than 60 people in its specialist IT department.

Peter Knight, the trust’s chief information and digital officer, said: “Instead of always having to come into the hospital in person, we are creating new ways of communicating and interacting with patients which are much more convenient to them.

“We’re trying to change the way we do our business and want to be as efficient as possible.

“We’re going to be able to look at data to see how we can best serve and influence the health of the population we care for.”

OUH is one of 12 NHS trust in the country that will receive up to £10m to champion the use of digital technology and drive radical improvements in the care of patients.

A number of initiatives the trust will be working on includes real time video links between ambulance and emergency departments to support better care during journeys to hospital and electronic detection of patient deterioration.

It will also be looking at online systems that reduce medication errors by monitoring patients more effectively and alerting clinicians.

Already the trust is understood to be one of the most advanced NHS trusts for implementing the Cerner Millennium electronic patient record system.

Mr Knight added: “If you want to be at the forefront of digital tech in healthcare then this is a really exciting opportunity.”

A wide range of roles are available including technology project managers and solution experts.
