A FREE concert is to be staged at Oxford Town Hall to celebrate Oxford’s twinning links.

The concert will take place at the St Aldate’s venue on Friday at 7.30pm to celebrate the city’s links with Perm in Russia, Leiden in the Netherlands, Bonn in Germany, Leòn in Nicaragua, and Grenoble in France.

Oxford International Links has invited local and international acts to take part, including Maki Sekiya, a virtuoso pianist trained in Russia playing pieces by Russian composers, Oxford City Morris Men, Gwyndaff Oliver, a solo cornet player and part of the Oxford University Brass Band, East Oxford Madrigal Quartet, Vivace Community Choir from Botley and Cumnor, and Shillingford and Warborough Community Choir.

Lord Mayor Mohammed Altaf-Khan will open the event, which is organised by Oxford International Links and supported by Oxford City Council.

Council leader Bob Price said: “This concert reflects the vitality and range of Oxford’s international friendships and is a chance to celebrate the city’s cultural diversity.

“We are looking forward to the 70th anniversary in May of twinning with Bonn and Leiden Square opening in the Westgate Centre in November.”
