A revival of Arthur Miller's Death Of A Salesman will continue with another actor in the lead role following the death of star Tim Pigott-Smith.

Nicholas Woodeson will take over the role of Willy Loman and the UK tour of the play will carry on as planned.

It will be performed at Oxford Playhouse from July 11 to July 15.

The production was due to open at the Royal & Derngate in Northampton on April 10, before an extensive nationwide tour, but was postponed following Pigott-Smith's death on April 7.

His wife Pamela Miles was initially expected to play Willy's spouse Linda but pulled out of the production weeks earlier after breaking a bone during rehearsals, and was replaced on the bill.

James Dacre, Royal & Derngate's artistic director, and Martin Sutherland, the theatre's chief executive, said: "Following the tragic death of Tim Pigott-Smith OBE on April 7, and after close consultation with the acting company, creative team and our touring partners, we have decided to proceed with our production and tour of Death Of A Salesman.

"Whilst rehearsals resume, all scheduled Northampton performances will be postponed.

"The tour will start at Cambridge Arts Theatre before visiting Bath, Malvern, Exeter, Edinburgh, Truro, Guildford and Oxford and returning to Royal & Derngate, Northampton, in June.

"We are grateful to all our colleagues and partners for their ongoing support and to our audiences for their patience and understanding as the team here has worked hard, under such difficult circumstances, to achieve this outcome."

Pigott-Smith died a month after collecting an OBE for services to drama.

He had already filmed the forthcoming BBC Two drama King Charles III, having successfully played the title role in the theatre production on Broadway and in the West End.

The play and TV drama depicts Charles as monarch after the Queen's death as he refuses to sign a controversial bill into law.
