TOUR guide John Sandy-Hindmarch will head once more into the breach at Oxford Castle this weekend in honour of Harry, England and St George.

As the nation honours its patron saint tomorrow Mr Sandy-Hindmarch expects a spike in visitor numbers to the attraction, which is one of the city’s oldest buildings.

He said: “St George’s Day is an important day to celebrate our English heritage here at one of the oldest buildings in Oxford.

“People know that fact and that makes them want to come here to mark the occasion.”

The tour guide kitted himself out with a shield emblazoned with the St George’s Cross and Three Lions as well as a full suit of chain mail.

He said: “Thankfully for me although it looks authentic it’s knitted. I don’t think I’d have been able to walk to the top of the mound otherwise.”

Guided tours of the 1,000 year old castle will take place throughout today and tomorrow.
