BEER-SWIGGING festival goers raised their steins in the air as a weekend of merriment got into full flow.

The four-day German Bierfest is taking place in Broad Street until tomorrow.

It features a traditional style German village, an open air beer garden and a FunTime area for kids.

Youngsters can play traditional German games during the day and lively DJ shows are taking place each night.

Punters have been given a list of songs to learn before attending and dressing up is strongly encouraged.

There are even lederhosen available for £29 each.

The main activity is of, course, the beer and there are three types available – Bavarian Weißbier, Bavarian Festbier and Bavarian Craftbier.

Typical German delicacies such as bratwurst, schnitzel and a roast pork dish known as schweinebraten are available to eat, as well as chips for the less adventurous.

Festivities start each day at midday and finish at 11pm.
