A CYCLING sportive that sees hundreds of riders whizz through Oxfordshire is set to return for its fifth year.

Organisers have announced the date of this year's Bike Oxford as Sunday, May 20.

It will raise money for Helen & Douglas House Hospice in East Oxford and Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The latter charity provides accommodation for parents of young patients in hospital, including at Oxford Children's Hospital.

Helen & Douglas House provides respite care for children with life-limiting disabilities, and last month revealed it will have to close its adult services due to funding pressures.

Last year Bike Oxford welcomed 1,200 cyclists to the start line.

It will again start and end at Oxford University Rugby Football Club off Iffley Road, following routes ranging from 25-80 miles.

Those who choose the longer rides will venture outside of the city and get to enjoy food and drink stations in the villages of Charlbury and Deddington.

The event is organised by Iconic Cycling Events and sponsored by Redrow, with support of Oxford City Council, Oxfordshire County Council and Cowley Road Condors.
