Tory MP Ed Vaizey appeared to launch a scathing attack on his own party during a televised interview.

The Wantage MP appeared on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff on Thursday where he called the Brexit negotiations 'nonsense' and said that parliament had been 'atomised'.

During the interview the MP told presenters: "I mean this whole thing about how Brexit is good for our trade is obviously complete nonsense.

"It's fantasy land frankly because the idea that we are going to strike any free trade deals in the next few years is rubbish for a start.

"And secondly any of these free trade deals are going to compensate for making it more difficult to trade with Ireland or France or Germany is also rubbish."

Asked if he was 'told off' by his fellow Conservatives for his views he said: "No I mean discipline is completely broken down in the parliamentary party so no-one tells anyone off because there's no power anywhere.

"It's an atomised parliament."
