Karl Robinson, the odds-on favourite for the Oxford United vacancy, has 'offered to resign' from his job at Charlton Athletic.
The South London Press are reporting the 37-year-old has offered to quit twice in the last week, but it is believed they were turned down by owner Roland Duchatelet.
Robinson, who spent six years at Milton Keynes Dons, has been the leading candidate with bookmakers to take over at United for several days.
The search for a new boss has been going on since January 22, with new owner Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth's last statement, on March 13, saying: "We believe we will be able to announce an appointment next week."
The Thai businessman also described the candidate as having "a real 'wow' factor".
