DRIVERS managed to escape the scene of an A420 crash without serious injury.

Witnesses said two cars flipped and crashed 'upside down' near Cumnor last night, and feared the worst.

Firefighters, paramedics and the air ambulance attended the collision at 6pm, and the road was blocked until gone 8.30pm.

South Central Ambulance Service has now confirmed that neither driver was seriously hurt.

Spokesman David Gallagher said: "It wasn’t as bad as initially reported by members of the public who called us.

"Along with the air ambulance we sent an officer in a rapid response vehicle and two ambulances to the scene.

"Both drivers had escaped without serious injury and after initial treatment and assessment at the scene, both were taken by road to the John Radcliffe Hospital."

The crash happened at the slip road where Abingdon Road meets the A420.

Traffic travelling between Oxford and Faringdon was affected and queues stretched back to the junction with the Eynsham Road.

Oxford Mail:

Jess Hawthorn, who was in one of the first cars on the scene after the crash, said there was a car upside down on the slip road and another upside down on the other side of the dual carriageway.

She added that lots of people stopped to help and there was debris across both carriages.
