A MUSICAL theatre fan will win the chance to study acting and dancing at an Oxfordshire stage school, thanks to a grant from composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The £6,110 Andrew Lloyd Webber Scholarship will provide one student with the fees to cover the cost of the musical theatre studies course at the Oxford School of Drama, near Woodstock.

The school is one of 10 chosen to receive scholarship cash and the prize will go to a gifted student who cannot afford the cost.

The six-month course, aimed at those aged 17 and over, involves voice coaching and acting lessons and starts in September.

It is the second year the school has offered the prize.

Last year’s winner was Emily Thompson, 19, from Hull, who now lives in Woodstock.

She said: “There isn’t much provision for musical theatre where I live, so I was thrilled to be offered the scholarship.

“I am currently auditioning for three-year musical theatre courses in London and Glasgow and hope I will do the scholarship justice by gaining a place next year.”

School spokesman Lauren Wild added: “It is great to be able to offer this scholarship for the second year running.”
