Transparency is important in today’s world, whether it concerns politics, business or our children’s schools.
So it is so reassuring to see Gosford Hill School in Kidlington ensuring it abides by the very definition of the word in its initial consultation over academy status.
The secondary school launched a consultation last Tuesday and on Thursday held its first public meeting.
Headteacher Dr Steve Bizley said: “We wanted to get the consultation moving as quickly as possible.
“We are aware parents might be anxious [and] we wanted to make sure they had the earliest opportunity to ask questions.”
He added: “We need to be sure if we make this decision, we have looked at as many questions as possible and answered them and we know how people are feeling.”
The real responsibility must now lie with parents, to make sure that they take advantage of this consultation process and do their own homework.
It is vital they fully understand just what academy status might mean for their children, and the future generations of pupils who follow them.
